Fujikin's History

The origin of today's Fujikin can be said to be the year when the first needle valve was created.

Rain that falls onto the earth turns into a river that heads for the sea, and the water vapour from the sea turns into clouds so that once again rain falls onto the earth. This is the magnificent cycle of water and atmosphere, and from this ~ flow ~ everything comes into existance.

"Flow" exists everywhere in our lives, and by controlling flow, people can enjoy a rich and comfortable lifestyle. For example, a kitchen's water faucet controls the "flow" of water, and a gas tap controls the "flow" of gas, which are indispensable in our everyday lives. At our foundation in 1930, we sold piping equipment and tools deeply related to this "flow" and since then progressed into becoming a manufacturer.

When Japan's valve industry was developing after the war, there was demand for more precise control of gas flow. In opposition to expensive imported products, Fujikin developed its first patented product, the Needle Valve. Four years of trial and error were needed to complete the product, in 1953, and this is when Fujikin emerged as a leading technology company.

Since then, Fujikin's corporate culture has been to challenge the obstacles, to invent original products and to strengthen its development of technology. The results can easily be seen. In 1976, we succeeded in developing the first Japanese valve equipment for space rockets. Fujikin has supplied more than 6000 units for fuel control and life support systems that were adopted in experimental equipment for Japan's first domestically produced satellite and space shuttle.

For the production of such rocket components, an extremely clean environment is required, and so Japan's valve manufacturers established clean rooms for the first time. This experience subsequently led to the development of valves for the production of semiconductors, and Fujikin's products, which can accurately control micro-gas flow, have acquired 65% of Japan's market share and 40% of the global market share.

As we celebrate the 85th anniversary of Fujikin's foundation, Fujikin over a long period of time has cultivated into its DNA to "create things that do not exist" and with our advanced flow control technology, we are expanding into the fields of pharmaceuticals, food production and new energy. With global warming influencing the flow of water and the atmosphere, Fujikin is contributing to the decrease of the environmental burden. Furthermore, we are taking the initiative and being proactive in life science, sturgeon cultivation that is to say new genres, which is having great results.

From now, once a month, Fujikin will list its extensive business activities in the Nikkei Newspapers and the Fujikin website, so please continue to look.
